My name is Raihan Hussain. I’m currently a student at Ryerson University studying Sports Media.

I grew up in an immigrant family, like many other proud Canadians. Aside from myself, the rest of my family came from Bangladesh in the early 1990s. Born and raised in Toronto, I quickly grew a deep attachment to hockey.

Ever since I was a young kid, my best memories were those of which took place Saturday nights, watching Hockey Night in Canada and cheering on the hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.

Eventually, those experiences grew into a bit of an obsession. Today I watch a lot of sports and pay very close attention to the National Hockey League. My intentions are to take what came together as a fandom and transform it into a way of living, which is why I’m studying sports media right now and hoping to crack the industry in some manner.

Aside from sports, religion is a top priority for me. No matter how volatile the times may seem, I’m glad I can say I am a Muslim. Nothing matters more to me than that. The lifestyle that Islam preaches is of the best for humans in this world. It does not promote violence or hatred or terrorism. Rather, if you truly look into the subject, Islam came into this world to repel those evils and bring about the best in humans. I believe that.

I’ve gone through quite a few experiences in my life, most notably fighting off cancer in my pre-teen years. Everything about my life had changed. I had to learn a new way of living and I chronicle some of those experiences in this blog.

I enjoy writing, creating content, and engaging with people. But right now, I’m not sure where I see myself five or ten years down the road. No matter what happens, I hope to always be grateful to God, my family, my friends, and those who care to engage with me. Success in this life is often unpredictable and random, but what isn’t is the choice to be a good person. That’s what I always want to hold true to myself.
